"Why is there a typo on the sign? When will you fix it??"

This is a common question regarding the library sign on the corner of First and Court Streets. There's nothing to fix! It matches the original sign on the front of the building.
In Latin, "U" and "V" were the same letter. "V" was easier to engrave on stone and is used on many buildings with Roman architecture. It can be seen in Woodland on the former Yolo County Courthouse and at the Yolo Fliers Club.
More information about the history of the alphabet and why it continues to be used this way can be found at Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, and textkit.com.
